I’ve always been interested in the idea of an Ergodox with
standard staggering so I thought I’d gauge interest here to
see what people think of the layout I’ve knocked up.
The
main benefits of this would be the ability to move between
keyboards much easier and also the ease in finding keycap
sets in Cherry/DCS/SA profile. We would need to get
space-bars made however I have chosen the 2.75 size key
which all manufacturers have for the R-Shift key. You will
also notice I decided to go with a fourth mod on the bottom
left hand side, this was done to shift the space-bar across
so that it can accommodate people with larger hands.
Option
A — Standard key sizes but the two sides don’t match
together perfectly on the bottom row.
Option B — Both sides have matching stagger on the
bottom row so it looks more symmetrical. Only problem is
combination of 1.25 and 1 unit bottom row mods, the
space-bar may be too far left for people with larger
hands.
Option C — Still with the matching stagger, this
drops one of the left hand side mods in favor of 1.5 unit
keys. I feel like this is a good mix but we would probably
need to use blanks for that left win-key.
