Prototype

Say Aloha (Hello in Hawaiian) to MechWild’s next board, the Mokulua, named after the Mokulua islands, a pair of islands off the coast of Oahu.

This is our first split board and we went with a 65% Alice-style layout. Both halves use Pro Micros and the halves connect using USB-C ports. This kit will be another FR4 sandwich kit but with a twist! The bottom plate will be laser cut acrylic this time.

    Layouts

Currently, the prototype uses a reversible PCB so the right half stagger is a bit different from traditional boards. We are working on a right half PCB with a more typical layout. Other changes we are making are changing the screw placement and OLED cutout. We are deciding on what final appearance the acrylic bottom plates should have. We are also considering some acrylic embellishments to go on top of the board.
Things we still need to do:

  • Finalize bottom acrylic designs and options

  • Topside acrylic pieces

  • Modify OLED cutout

  • Right half PCB with traditional stagger

  • Adjust screw placement

Mahalo for your time and feedback on the Mokulua split keyboard. Aloha, a hui hou! (Aloha also means goodbye in Hawaiian)
