Hello Geekhack!
Starting around the beginning of the
pandemic I have involved myself with a variety of keyboard
related projects. Today I want to present the Penrose
Deskmat, an eye-catching, historic, mathematical pattern.

Backstory
One of the first youtubers I ever subscribed to was
Veritasium. After watching his
latest video about the Infinite Patterns, I was inspired to make this beautiful historic pattern
into a deskmat. The Penrose Tiling is an exmaple of
aperiodic tiling, you can read more about it on the
Wikipedia page here. Part of the reason the pattern is aesthetically pleasing
is that it follows the golden ratio of 1.618 and follows a 5
fold symmetry pattern. I went with simple color ways to help
match neutral sets and accommodate as many combinations as
possible.
