The moogle train is
rounding the bend and approaching the station folks. I
hadn’t planned on doing an interest check since there is
obviously enough interest to support a buy. But there has
been enough back and forth in the
RGBY
and
R2 moogle
threads that I want to see what options everyone desires and
how realistic those options are.
First off, there will
definitely be black, white, and Dolch sets available.
Quarzac is also planning to do a sister group buy for WYSE
moogles more or less simultaneously.
So the big
question that we need to discuss is what variations will be
available. Obviously we will include at least the “standard”
moogle kit: 1.25x Ctrl/Alt/Win/Menu, left and
right ANSI shifts, caps lock, and space bar.
A) The
most obvious add-on is an ISO left shift. This will almost
certainly happen.
B) The second most obvious variation
is 1.5x modifiers, though I’m not clear on why this would
benefit anyone.
C) Some have been pushing for a full
modifier set that includes tab, backspace, and enter as
well, in order to maintain a consistent look.
D) Others
have asked for an ISO adapter kit that would allow
doubleshot sets harvested from ISO keyboards to be used on
ANSI keyboards. This would include enter, backslash, and
maybe quote and/or others … I’m not sure, someone
familiar with ISO layouts help me out.
E) At least one
person wants off-center, non-stepped caps locks
F)
Other ideas?
So let’s discuss. What do you want to see
offered and why, and how many would you buy assuming
reasonable prices?

Below are pricing
breakdowns from Melissa for the ideas that have been kicking
around in the thread.
Bear in mind that these are
just the raw production costs. The final
pricing will have other fixed costs factored in (legend
fees, shipping from SP, supplies, etc.). I’m posting these
breakdowns as a sanity check against sets that are not
likely to succeed, and to give a feel for what kind of cost
decreases we are likely to get as we gather orders.
Also
bear in mind that I’m not sure yet what will be offered in
the final buy. My current feelings are that the base kit
will happen as it is shown below. Stepped caps lock, blank
mods, ISO left shift, and extra space bars will likely be
for sale individually rather than as kits. 1.5x Caps Lock
will probably be dropped from the Anti-Caps kit as there
doesn’t seem to be much demand for it. The ISO Adapter and
Full Modifier kits are dependent on new SVGs. If those don’t
pan out, they won’t happen.
